22 Miles to the Temple.

On Friday our youth did a hike to the temple. A 22 mile overnight hike. Chuckie and I got to be drivers for the night. Seriously was one of the most amazing experiences i have ever been a part of. We started out in seven hills in henderson about 8:45pm. Along the way we had 3 stops for devotionals and nutrition breaks. We kept four cars beside them all night for safety. There ended up being 79 people that did the hike. There was very little complaining and all but one made it to the temple. Aaron and 3 others were leads. They were in charge of street crossing and safety. I could not have been more proud of him. He said on Sunday that he didn't think he could even do the 22 miles. Not only did he do but he did it leading the pack most of the night. I think he totally surprised himself. The theme for the hike was "we can do hard things". And it was hard. It was cold and windy and they were tired. But they did it. They made it to the temple just as the sun was rising. It was a beautiful site. And they all mostly walked through the gates with a smile on their faces even though most of them looked half dead throughout the night. They were greeted by a member of the temple presidency then fed a good breakfast. I am so thankful that i was able to be a part of the night. I drove all night and Chuckie passed out water and snacks and took jackets and bags and we did countless bathroom runs. I never got tired at all. And after it was done we realized they had ended up actually doing 23 1/2 miles total. Such an amazing group of people!!

about to start...
this was about 4 or 5 miles into it. still smiling...
safety patrol on the job...
this was by the silverbowl. about 14 miles into it. no smiles anymore...
they made it! coming through the temple gates. aaron all smiles in the background...
the whole group at the end...
The next day they held a joint meeting with the youth and parents at church. It was awesome to hear from some of the youth about what they had learned about themselves. No doubt they are so much stronger because of this experience.

Sounds amazing! I'm glad he enjoyed the experience. I'm proud of him--I know it's hard. We did the trek when I was pregnant with Eli and it was tough!
